At Baku Girls University, as part of the "Practical Translation" course for third-year students of the "Foreign Language Teaching" program, a screening of the film adaptation of Jane Austen's famous work "Sense and Sensibility" was held. The aim of the event was to deepen students' knowledge of literature, help them better understand historical contexts, and develop their listening and comprehension skills.
Using a multimedia approach in the teaching process, i.e., combining visual and auditory resources, not only increased students' interest in the lesson but also enhanced their critical thinking, translation skills, and ability to analyze. Such activities, based on the principle of interdisciplinary integration, improve the effectiveness of language learning, translation, and literature lessons.
During the film screening, students had the opportunity to analyze both the culture of 18th century England and the social relations of that period. After the film, the course instructors, Rəqsanə Məmmədova and Elmira Kənan, conducted an interactive discussion with the students, evaluating their ability to compare the work and the film, analyze the characters, and connect the main ideas of the work with the modern era.
In the teaching of the "Practical Translation" course, activities such as literary analysis, listening comprehension, lexical skills development, and independent translation, based on a student-centered teaching model, provide an opportunity for students to express their independent thoughts.
