Summary
Norwegian dialectology was mainly based on historical studies, and these studies played an important role in dialectology. Historical research has provided a solid foundation for understanding the development and characteristics of Norwegian dialects. Different Norwegian linguists have done different studies on dialects. The results of these studies help to clarify the diversity and development of dialects. In the article, some of these dialect studies are discussed in detail. Thus, the article covers historical and contemporary research aspects of Norwegian dialectology.
