Summary
Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Critical Discourse Studies (CDS) are influential interdisciplinary approaches that examine the relationship between language, power, ideology, and society. Although these two terms are often used interchangeably, they represent different stages in the theoretical and methodological development of critical discourse research. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the key theoretical concepts of CDA and CDS, with a focus on discourse, power, ideology, social practice, and context. The article argues that CDS should be understood not as a replacement for CDA, but as its theoretical expansion, incorporating cognitive, cultural, and interdisciplinary aspects of discourse analysis.
