Summary
The article is devoted to the theoretical justification of active teaching methods as an effective mechanism for developing public speaking skills in the English language classes. It examines the historical evolution of teaching methods as described in both national and foreign methodological literature. The study establishes that active teaching methods constitute a comprehensive system, which facilitates the formation of public speaking skills in English. Taken together, the findings of the article confirm that active teaching methods perform not only an educational but also a training function, ensuring efficient preparation for public speaking in English.
