Summary

This article discusses the questions related to plurality in English and Azerbaijani languages and the characteristics of various approaches and interpretations to their formal identification as semantic. According to researchers there exist a number of diffrenet approaches, (evolutionary, lexical, stuctural, morphological, semantic, etc.) methods to the formal interpretation of plurality in English and Azerbaijani languages. When we compare the ways of formation plurality we may face with some similarities and differences. However, the methods of plurality formation and their identification can somehow be interpretd by the situational analyses. Such kind of multifacetedness very often leads to confusion among the linguistists when they emphasize its one aspect, for example, grammatical, while forgetting the semantic surfaces. Besides, although the typological classification of plurality in comparative lingusitics has taken much wider discussions among the scholars, it has not come to the end yet in terms of identification this paradigm’s demarcation limits, especially, the time-spatial effects which are related to the context. The article tries to comapare various stands of linguists on these stands and pretends that although singularity and plurality mainly belong to morphological function, various semantic references may also serve as contextual or textual plurality. The article states that, one way to express the plurality in English and Azerbaijani is connected with semantic context. In another case, this semantic unity is expressed by means of expressing the intensity of thought, for example, again and again, from time to time, now and then, from time to time, by means of measurement - hundred years - hundreds of years, then the expressions of charming beauties as lakes, valleys, forests where apart from these amainitie we can also assume more than which are inherent for their semantic menaing. However, it should be noted that all these semantic possibilities (in this case adverbal expressions) are considered to be lexicalized to express plurality in English and Azerbaijani languages. In this case, we believe that the category of time and space, which stands between lexical and semantic surfaces, should be highlighted. It means that, in these cases, the excessive time and space capabilities of the semantic scale serve to lexicalize the paradigm of plurality.
