Summary

The poet, writer, and also politician Jonathan Swift was born in 1667 in Ireland into a family of English origin. Known as one of the most famous satirists of English literature, Swift, despite being a clergyman, was deeply interested in philosophy throughout his life and wrote satires and lampoons on political issues that concerned him. Defending a society whose freedom had been restricted under the pressure of the ruling power and opposing the violation of human rights emerged as the main purpose of Jonathan Swift's creative activity.
